Burton on Trent

Members Page Intro

Why Introduce a Members‑Only Page?

Many u3as across the country now use Members‑Only pages to share information securely with their membership. For Burton on Trent u3a, introducing a Members‑Only area gives us a clear, central place to store documents and resources that are intended for members rather than the general public. It supports good governance, reduces administrative workload, and helps us communicate more effectively as our u3a continues to grow.

What It Enables

  • Secure access to internal documents
AGM papers, policy documents, committee updates and other internal materials can be shared safely without appearing on the public website.
  • Better support for our Group Leaders
Leaders can share handouts, notes, schedules or follow‑up materials with their groups without relying on long email chains.
  • A smoother experience for members
Members can find forms, guidance, newsletters and useful documents in one place, reducing confusion and repeated requests.
  • Less email administration
Instead of sending attachments repeatedly, we can direct members to a single, up‑to‑date source.

How Members Access the Page

Access is simple and secure:

  • The page is protected by a single, group‑wide password.
  • All members receive this password, for example via the newsletter, welcome email or at monthly meetings.
  • When they click the link, they enter the password once to view the content.
  • No individual accounts or logins are required, keeping it easy for everyone.
  • Group Leaders who are already logged into the Burton on Trent u3a website with their usual credentials will not need to enter the Members‑Only password. Their login automatically grants access to these pages.

Why It Benefits the Committee

  • Helps us meet transparency expectations while keeping sensitive material protected
  • Ensures documents are stored consistently and remain easy to find
  • Supports onboarding of new committee members and group leaders
  • Demonstrates that Burton on Trent u3a is modernising and improving accessibility for all members
