This is a new group which is taking a look at the literature of the Bible. The complete subject title is The Bible's "3-Rs": Writings, Writers and Readers.

We are dipping into both the New Testament and the Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament as Christians know it. We have only had two sessions so far, but they have been really useful. We are learning that few readers are reading the writings in the ways that the writers intended. In both the church and academia, there is currently little understanding of any writing discipline. We are discovering the rules to which the writers wrote. And we are reading the texts, not to chapter and verse (which was imposed on the texts eight-hundred years ago) but to each text's own structure and style. A book is provided for each participant; notes too are appropriate to our discussions.

We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:30pm for a couple of hours in my home which is in Church Gresley.
