PLEASE CONTACT THE GROUP LEADER BEFORE ATTENDING FOR THE FIRST TIME
Welcome to the Burton Long Walks page. We meet on the 2nd Friday of each month at the walk starting point and start walking at 10am. The Group Leader will send out the walk details a week or so prior to the walk date.
We are a friendly group and the Circular walks are between 6 - 7 miles. We walk at an average of 2mph. We take a couple of 5-ish minute water breaks during the walk and normally stop at a cafe/pub at the end, to refuel.
We hope new friends will join us for our scenic walks - your friends are always welcome, they can do any 2 group taster sessions before they become members. There are no fees for the walks.
We sometimes meet to arrange carpools, either at the Newton Road car park between the Trent Bridge and The Sump (park in the main car park where there are toilets available), or at the Rolleston Club car park (at the back near the bowls green). (links below)

If you are interested in more info or in joining this group please contact the Group Leader, Herb Croken, via the "Walks - Long group" link provided above.
The next Long Walk will be led by Mick and Mike on Friday the 10th of July, starting from TBA.
Walk details will be emailed to the group a week or so before.
Please check on HERE before setting out on Friday morning as the walk could be cancelled due to weather conditions.

June12th was Rexs' first official walk as a walk leader, a job well done. Please see his note below, as well as Dennis' photos…
Ten of us met up at The Markeaton Inn to begin our 6.4 mile walk, round the lake in Markeaton Park, the site of Markeaton Hall, the history of the Mundy family and the development of this very popular Derby City park.
We followed the Bonnie Prince Charlie Way across fields to All Saints Church, Mackworth, where we saw the ongoing restoration of the church, following the arson destruction of December 2020, and paused in Mackworth village to see and discuss the history of Mackworth Castle and its surviving Gatehouse.
Walking gently uphill, we had a break at Lower Vicarwood Farm, and arrived at the highest point on our walk behind Kedleston Hall estate. Here we paused to see the extensive views across Derby and, in the distance, the Charnwood hills.
We then followed the track down through Markeaton Stones to our starting point.
Saying cheerio to three of our group, seven of us enjoyed a meal, drink and chat in the Markeaton Inn.
